IPL 2023: Virat Kohli – Blue tick is been removed from the Twitter account of Virat Kohli. Twitter CEO Elon Musk had said that it will introduce paid services to verify the social media accounts of high-profile celebrities and the general public. The blue ticks disappeared on Thursday from the accounts of some of the most followed cricketers like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma. Twitter owner Musk introduced this new paid service late last year called Twitter Blue with the sole intention to “democratize journalism and empower the voice of the people.”

Hardik Pandya got a verified stamp because the all-rounder’s Twitter account is an official business account through Twitter Blue for Business. The Business account is identified through a golden checkmark.

Karun Nair also lost his blue tick on April 20. When InsideSport contacted the Karnataka batter, he said not having the blue tick didn’t matter to him.

For the uninitiated, close to 300,000 users had a blue tick before Musk started the new verification system on Thursday. The blue tick helped users distinguish the profiles of celebrities and public figures from fake accounts and provided an extra shield to prevent misinformation.

After buying Twitter for a whopping amount of $44 billion last October, Musk is keen to increase the platform’s revue by offering subscription and premium services. The cost to display blue tick for the induvial is $8 per month, but for the companies, it is $1,000 per month to keep the blue tick. It is still not clear whether the likes of Kohli, Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma will pay $8 to keep the symbol. Pandya will have a golden tick owing to business account.
