IPL 2023: Jhye Richardson – Ahead of IPL 2023, Mumbai Indians received a massive setback as Jhye Richardson is set to be ruled out of the T20 tournament owing to a hamstring injury. The Australia pacer has gone under the knife and posted a heartfelt post on Instagram on March 11 about being frustrated to be out due to injury but excited to see where the future lies. After Jasprit Bumrah, Richardson’s injury comes as a dampener for Mumbai Indians, who are chasing a record sixth IPL title. Follow IPL 2023 Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

IPL 2023: ‘One step back two step forwards, Jhye Richardson begins the road to recovery after going under the knife

“Injuries are a big part of cricket, that’s a fact. The last few years have been a tough pill to swallow but now I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where I can work as hard as I can to become the best I can be,” Richardson posted in an Instagram post. Since pulling his hamstring on January 4, Richardson had not participated in any cricket matches.

Although the injury was initially thought to be minor, it took him two whole months to begin playing again, and now after the latest surgery, Richardson is set to be side-lines for at least one month.

He didn’t participate in the Perth Scorchers’ BBL championship run and hasn’t played in the Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield since. Nonetheless, he was chosen to play for Australia in the 16-man ODI squad for the three-match series against India, which gets underway on March 17 in Mumbai.

Richardson has been replaced by Nathan Ellis, who has appeared in three ODIs. In a 50-over match for his club Fremantle against Wanneroo on Saturday in Perth, Richardson made his comeback to competitive cricket. It was hoped that before leaving for India, he would make his domestic comeback in the Marsh Cup final.

Mumbai Indians are yet to name replacements for Richardson and Bumrah. While there are a lot of overseas options available to fill Richardson’s shoes, there are not enough India pace options to fill the void left by Bumrah.
