IPL 2022 LIVE Broadcast: The IPL always deliver BUMPER-RATINGS in the opening week. But for the first time RATINGS have dropped for the 1st week very considerably.

According to BARC Data: Week 13: Saturday, 26th March 2022 to Friday, 1st April 2022

  • First eight matches of the IPL 2022 scored a TVR of 2.52. 
  • In comparison, TVR for the opening week in IPL 2021 was 3.75. This clearly means ratings for the opening week has fallen by 33%.
  • Ratings for IPL 2020 was 3.85 TVR for the opening week.
  • Not only the Ratings but the overall reach of the first week has also dropped. 
  • The opening weekend reach has almost dropped by 14% to 229.06 million.
  • VIS a VIA last year the reach for the opening week was 267.7.
  • The opening week of IPL 2022 also failed on anothe perimeter. Normally opening week of IPL always makes the IPL Broadcaster No. 1 on BARC Charts.
  • Star Sports 1 Hindi has stayed at No. 3 on the chart which clearly shows that IPL’s magic has failed to work in the opening week.

IPL Media Rights Tender – 5 Companies Buy IPL Media Tenders: The fight for the IPL Media Rights for 2023-27 will take place on June 12th. The ratings will surely be closely monitored by the bidders – but for now it is unlikely to have much impact on the values of rights.

Meanwhile according to available information 5 serious players have already bought the tender doucments. Disney Star, TV18-Viacom (Sports-18), Amazon, Zee & Sony have already bought the tender documents within the first week of BCCI releasing it.

The name of all the companies who have bought the tenders were already doing the rounds. The information coming in from the BCCI sources is that another big tech giant is in talks with the BCCI and is likely to buy the Tender document sometime this week.

  • The deadline to purchase the ITT ends on May 10
  • The potential bidder will then have next four weeks to seek clarifications
  • June 12th will be the LIKELY Date for E-Auction

IPL Media Rights Tender: What is the BASE PRICE for the IPL Broadcasting & LIVE streaming rights for 2023 to 2027 Cycle?

IPL Media Rights Tender Base Price: The BCCI, last week, announced that the ITT was for sale for a price of Rs 25 lac. The rights will be sold in four separate buckets. 

Each bidding party will have to separately bid for each package.

The last cycle of rights were sold at 16,347.5. BCCI has doubled the base price to 33,000 crore this time.

“Everyone knows the value of IPL as product has increased in the last 5 years. We have divided rights into 4 bundles to unlock the real value for the rights. No composite bids will be allowed. For each package bidders will have to bid separately. Each package will have base price attached to it”, informed a top source in BCCI directly involved with the Tender process.

According to information available with InsideSport –

  • Bundle A – Indian Sub Continent Broadcast: Base price in this category is Rs 49 crore per game. Overall 74 Games base price would be Rs 18,130 crore for five years.
  • Bundle B – Digital rights Indian Sub-Continent: Base price for this package is Rs 33 crore per game. For five years, the calculation is Rs 12,210 crore.
  • Bundle C: Non Exclusive Package (DIGITAL): The much-debated special package is in Bundle C which comprises 18 games and the reserve price in this cluster is Rs 16 crore per game. At 74 games per season and calculated for five years, the price of this bundle is Rs 1440 crore. This 18 Games in this package will be – Opening Match, 4 Playoff matches & 13 Evening Double Header matches
  • Bundle D: Rest of the World Rights (Outside Sub-Continent): Base price for this package is Rs 3 crore per game. The combined value of the reserve price is Rs 1110. crore for five years.
