Deepak Chahar was one of the stars last season and Chennai spent a massive Rs 14 crore to retain his services. However, the pacer has struggled with an injury, meaning CSK have had to scramble for options in his absence.
Speaking in his post match press conference, Ravindra Jadeja also lamented the absence of Deepak Chahar, suggesting that the Indian pacer’s return to the team would be crucial to the side.
Jadeja said, “Deepak Chahar is definitely our main bowler. In his absence we want to give guys like Mukesh Choudhary the opportunity to impress and learn before passing a judgement. With Chahar, we hope that he can return to the team as soon as possible. His return will be good for us because taking wickets with the new ball is crucial and his presence makes the bowling unit stronger.”
Why Deepak Chahar is so crucial for CSK?
Chahar since his debut has the most wickets in the powerplay. He has bagged a whopping 42 wickets in the first six overs.
With pitches in IPL 2022 assisting pace and bounce, Deepak would have been a great option to strike up front.
The defending champions failed to pick up any wickets in the powerplay during their 1st two games, while picked up two against Punjab, including a runout.

Ruturaj Gaikwad IPL 2022 Form: CSK have also struggled with the bat in the powerplay. Last year’s Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad is struggling.
The 24-year-old got out in all three innings without bothering the scorers too much.
Addressing Gaikwad’s form, Jadeja said, “As far as Ruturaj Gaikwad is concerned, we are not putting too much pressure on him. We want him to take his time and will back him in whatever preparations he is doing while talking to him and keeping him in a good frame of mind.”
