IPL 2022: Jofra Archer will not put his name at IPL Mega Auction, elbow injury rules him out till June 2022

Archer recently went under the knife to address the long-standing stress fracture in the joint. He has not played top-flight cricket for the last nine months and the recent development means he will stay away from the game for 15 months.

‘The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that fast bowler Jofra Archer underwent a second operation on his injured right elbow on Saturday 11 December in London. The procedure addressed the long-standing stress fracture of his right elbow. A return to cricket will be determined in time, but Jofra will not be available for any of England’s remaining Winter series,’ ECB said in a statement.

IPL 2022 Auction: Huge loss for Jofra Archer-

  • Jofra Archer is a key player in IPL. He has played 35 matches and taken 46 wickets at an economy rate of 7.13
  • 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals had last bought him for Rs 7.2 crore.
  • T20 specialist missed the entire season this year due to a finger injury.
  • RR opted against retaining him but Archer would have still made it big at the IPL 2022 mega auctions.

Archer was first ruled out of the West Indies tour of England in March earlier this year and since then he has stayed away from international cricket. He missed a number of tournaments — India Tour of England, T20 World Cup and the ongoing Ashes 2021-22. His Ashes absence came as a big jolt to already struggling England. He will now look forward to England’s domestic campaign in 2022 to mark his return.

Earlier this month, Archer had got in touch with Australia’s Channel 7. He looked optimistic about his rehabilitation. “The (scan) results came back yesterday and it was quite promising, actually – everything is moving forward nicely. It’s just a matter of waiting a little bit more and being a little bit more patient because I’m almost at the end of the road,” he said.
