DC physio Patrick Farhart became the first victim of Covid-19 in IPL 2022. So far, with the pandemic under control, things seemed to go pretty well. Crowd returned to 50% of the stadium capacity. But BCCI has been hit hard with the first positive case.

“Delhi Capitals physio Patrick Farhart has been tested positive for COVID-19. He is being closely monitored by the DC Medical Team at the moment,” the BCCI said in an official statement.

But the first Covid case inside the air-tight bio-bubble has also puzzled BCCI. It has instructed the health and safety officials to investigate if there was any breach in the bio-bubble.

“It is always puzzling when someone gets infected inside a bio-bubble. Patrick is fine and he is being monitored by the DC medical staff but obviously, we are looking into it to eliminate any bio-bubble breach. For now, the match is on,” the BCCI official told InsideSport.IN.

With cases gradually rising, COVID threat has increased during the two-month-long IPL. Last year, the tournament had to be suspended at the peak of the second wave in May and was later completed in the UAE.

The BCCI is staging IPL 2022 event in four stadiums across Maharashtra to minimise the COVID-19 threat. However, the play-offs are expected to be played outside the state. The league games are being held in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune. It is still unclear whether BCCI will decide against moving the playoffs out of Maharashtra.
