IPL 2022 Bio-Bubble Rules –The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wasn’t kidding when it said the bio-bubble would be strict. The Indian board has introduced fines and repeated bubble breaches could even lead to a ban from IPL for the entire season. Besides that, BCCI has tightened rules for the family members as well. The BCCI, it seems, has learnt from its mistakes last year. The IPL 2021 had to be suspended after bio-bubble breaches in three teams. To avoid such a situation again, the BCCI has introduced hefty fines for franchises besides point docking and ban from IPL for players.

“The COVID-19 pandemic poses a serious threat to the health of individuals and the cooperation, commitment and adherence by each Person Subject To These Operational Rules to the measure put in place to provide a safe environment is of paramount importance,” the BCCI wrote in its operational rules as per a Cricbuzz report.

IPL 2022 Bio-Bubble Rules : Bio-bubble breach from player/official/ match official
  • 7-day mandatory quarantine for player, match official/ franchise official in case of first-time offenders.
  • Players/ match officials won’t be paid for the number of matches missed.
  • Second-time offenders will attract one-match suspension.
  • For third-time offenders, the player/official will be removed from the IPL bio-bubble.
  • They will be banned from IPL 2022 and no replacement player can be called up.
  • For missing Covid test: First-time offenders will be warned. For the second time, they will be fined Rs 75,000 per offence and won’t be allowed to enter the stadium or training facility.

IPL 2022 Bio-Bubble Rules : Bio-bubble breach from family members

  • For a first-time offence, the family member will have to quarantine for 7 days.
  • The relevant player will also have to serve a mandatory 7-day re-quarantine period and won’t be paid for the matches missed.
  • For a second time offence, the family member will be removed from IPL’s bio-bubble permanently.
  • The player will have to serve a 7-day re-quarantine period and won’t be paid for the matches missed.

IPL 2022 Bio-Bubble Rules : Sanctions on franchises – Furthermore, the relevant franchise will also be punished alongside the player. The franchise will have to pay a fine of Rs 1 Crore for a first-time offence. For a second time offence, the franchise will be deducted 1 point and 2 points for a third-time offence.

  • If the franchise is unable to field a minimum of 12 players (including one substitute fielder), they will be referred to IPL Technical committee.
  • The IPL TC will try to reschedule the match but if that is not possible, the franchise will have to forfeit the match in that case.
  • If a player leaves without informing the Health & Safety officials, the franchise will have to pay a hefty fine.
  • The franchise will also have to pay a fine on pro-rata basis which would have been paid to the player for the matches missed.
