- In the opening match of SMAT 2021, Deepak Hooda smashed 75 runs off 39 balls against Jarkhand to hand over Rajasthan’s first victory of the season.
- In the following match, he came up with yet another half-century against Jammu & Kashmir to power his team to a 5-wicket win.
- In the match against Himachal Pradesh, Deepak Hooda scored the third consecutive half-century, 70* off 36 balls, to help the team clinch the third win on the trot.
- However, in the next match, Hooda couldn’t produce enough as he scored only 21 runs off 16 balls against Andhra Pradesh.
- Hooda bounced back and smashed brilliant 75 off 47 balls against Haryana in the final group stage match.
Throughout the group stage, Deepak Hooda was making headlines for Rajasthan with his brilliant performances. Out of the five matches, he has played, the 26-year-old has emerged as the highest scorer for the team four times. Deepak Hooda has played a vital role to help Rajasthan top the group stage and qualify them for the knockout stage. Hooda is one of the three players alongside Tanmay Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane to smash four half-centuries. Currently, Deepak Hooda is the highest run-scorer of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season, aggregating 291 runs from five matches.

After having been unable to prove his worth in this IPL season, Rajasthan batsman will be hoping that Punjab Kings will repose faith in him after having a brilliant Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season so far. Each of eight existing franchisees has the opportunity to retain four players from the last IPL season. If the Punjab Kings retains Hooda, then he will have yet another season with the franchise. Otherwise, the franchise with the highest bid might buy Deepak Hooda.
