IPL 2022 Auction: Huge setback coming franchises way, England top cricketers to miss latter stages of IPL 2022

Why England Players will not be available for full IPL? As per a report by Cricbuzz, ECB are all set to recall their players during the latter stages of the IPL 2022 to prepare for the series against New Zealand.

England will kick off their summer against New Zealand in June in a three-test series, but following their Ashes debacle, the ECB will call back their players for some ideal red-ball preparations before the series.

Which England Cricketers can be impacted? Some of the England test team regulars like Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes have already opted out of the IPL 2022 Auction.

The likes of Jonny Bairstow, Ollie Pope, Mark Wood, Dawid Malan Craig Overton, Sam Billings and Dan Lawrence all remain in contention to be picked up by the franchises.

Jos Buttler, who’s captained England previously, has already been retained for Rs 11 crore by the Rajasthan Royals.

Their will be a question mark on the availability of these cricketers for the full duration of IPL.

What will IPL Franchises do? While no official communication has been made, it is believed that the franchises have been asked to prepare for such a contingency as they make their plans for the IPL 2022 Auction.

It remains to be seen how this news could potentially alter plans and the prices the players would fetch in the auction.

Twenty-two English players have registered for the mega IPL auction, including several who have been in England’s recent Test plans.

ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison called for a red-ball reset of English cricket following their Ashes debacle, with Joe Root’s side losing 4-0 Down Under. With the IPL 2022 expected to be a two-month affair starting on March 27, the English players could miss out on the final few league games and the playoffs. The said players could then feature in the final round of County Championship matches before the England vs New Zealand series, which begin on May 12.
