IPL 2022 Auction: Five youngsters eyeing big lottery in mega auctions

Suresh Raina- Chennai Super Kings

All eyes will be on CSK whether they decide to go for Suresh Raina or not. The CSK star had failed entirely during the last edition of IPL. With his form heading south, it is highly likely that other franchises would ignore him at the auction. A final decision will be based on CSK whether they want to buy him or not. We have previously seen CSK buy Imran Tahir, Cheteshwar Pujara but didn’t include them in the playing XI. It’s too early to say if Raina might bid goodbye at the age. In IPL 2021, he managed just 160 runs from 12 matches at an average of 17.77.

Dinesh Karthik- Kolkata Knight Riders

At 36, Dinesh Karthik is not among the favourites to be sold at IPL 2022 Auction. His form has been dismal for the last three seasons which saw him score 253, 169 and 223 runs respectively. He averaged 14 and 22 with the bat for KKR in successive IPL seasons, putting a question mark on his IPL future. Adding to it, Karthik no longer takes the leadership role. Meanwhile, we have already witnessed the emergence of wicketkeepers in the domestic circuit.

Ajinkya Rahane- Delhi Capitals

Fighting hard for his place in the India Tour of South Africa, Ajinkya Rahane seems to have already played his last IPL season in form of IPL 2021. He failed big time in IPL 2020, managing just 113 runs in 9 innings at an average of 14. As a result, DC played him only twice where he managed 8 runs to put a final break on his IPL career. His strike rate remained dismal throughout his IPL career. Even if a team selects him, Rahane is unlikely to feature in the playing XI.

Imran Tahir- Chennai Super Kings

South Africa spinner Imran Tahir is all set to turn 33 years old in March. With increasing age, his shine has faded and he no longer is able to field properly as he did in his early days. Like Ajinkya Rahane, Imran Tahir has been also completely side-lined by CSK for the last couple of seasons, hinting him to retire ASAP. He played just 3 and lone games in the last couple of seasons. He was completely ruled out of UAE matches despite taking most wickets in India during IPL 2019.

Piyush Chawla- Mumbai Indians

At 32, Piyush Chawla is quite young but his IPL days seem to be over. He no longer is able to fill the void and has become an added burden for the team. His last three seasons have witnessed a downward trend in his IPL careers. He managed just 10 and 6 wickets in 13 and 7 games respectively. Mumbai Indians played him for once in IPL 2021 despite Rahul Chahar failing big time. Chawla can be hired to groom youngsters but as a player, his selection is in jeopardy.
