IPL 2022 Auction: BCCI extends deadline to enrol for IPL auction – With many Australians and English players unsure about their IPL participation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has extended the deadline from January 17 to January 20. With 10 teams and a bigger auction, BCCI expects no less than 1000 names. But the Indian board will narrow down the list of players and release around 250 of them for the auction pool. The final list will be out after the two new franchises Ahmedabad and Lucknow announce their three picks by January 22. The auction will take place on February 12-13 in Bengaluru.

While the BCCI expected all interested Australian and English players to take part in IPL, the Covid situation in India will mean, there will be another bio-bubble, forcing the cricketers to take a call.

The likes of Ben Stokes, Pat Cummins, Mark Wood and Mitchell Starc are still undecided on IPL return while Joe Root has pulled out.

“I didn’t give name for auction. I think that there’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I really hope I get the opportunity to do it. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we can,” Joe Root said after the final Ashes Test in Hobart.

  • IPL Auction dates have been set to February 12-13 in Bengaluru.
  • The BCCI has sent letters to other cricket boards and state associations and asked them to send the list of interested players by January 22.
  • England and Australian players will dominate the overseas players.
  • From over 1,000 entries, BCCI will narrow it down to 250 and release the final names by January end.
  • The final list will be out after Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises name their three picks from the unretained draft by January 22, 5 PM.

BCCI earlier had set a January 17 deadline for all state cricket associations and cricket boards to send the list of names for the auction.

“We approached our partner boards a month back to send the list of players. We expect them to send the list of players by January 17. This time, we expect over 1000 players but only 250 of them will be in the auction. The names will be released by the end of January. We have seen an increase in the interest with the growing brand value of IPL,” a board official had told InsideSport on Friday.
