IPL 2022 Auction: 5 big players desperately seeking reunion with MS Dhoni’s CSK

Dwayne Bravo

The West Indies allrounder has been a vital cog of Chennai Super Kings over the years. He has the ability to contribute in both the department- bowl match-winning spells & score crucial runs. The 38-year-old has already guided CSK to three IPL trophies since joining CSK. In fact, he has won record 16 T20 leagues. He has played record 151 matches with 167 wickets at an economy rate of 8.35. Besides this, he has also scored 1500+ runs. Overall, he has played 512 T20Is and took 553 wickets and amassed 6600+ runs. He can stretch his IPL career to a couple of more seasons.

“I am not retained by the CSK, but I will be in the auction, I will be 100 per cent in the auction. I do not know which team I will end up with. I will end up where I am destined to be. I do not know whether I will be picked up by CSK or not, I can be picked up by any other team as I am in the auction,” said Bravo.

Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa will be hoping for a favour from CSK after crucial knocks in limited outings last season. He scored 115 runs in 4 matches which included a crucial 63 runs knock. He comes with a huge experience of 193 matches and 4722 runs under his belt which includes 25 fifties and 168 sixes.

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina had scored 160 runs from 12 innings for CSK last IPL @17.77. He has played 205 matches and scored 5528 runs @32.51 which features 39 fifties and a century. He had missed the IPL 2020 edition citing personal reasons and managed 383 runs from 17 matches in IPL 2019 @23.93. The 35-year-old has lost his prime but has experience which can be used by an IPL franchise. Raina doesn’t play competitive cricket and playing in IPL alone puts a question mark on his purchase at IPL 2022 Auction. CSK had last purchased Suresh Raina for a hefty Rs 11 crore but he is expected to be picked in the rare case at base price.

“He’s (Raina) I think the biggest stalwart of CSK that we’ve had. He’s been such an instrumental figure in helping CSK qualify to so many of the knockout stages in the last 10-12 years. So, Sureshi (Suresh Raina) has been a vital cog in the wheel, so I think he will be the first guy they will go after,” said Robin Uthappa on Star Sports show ‘IPL Retention’.

Faf du Plessis

The South Africa batsman might have turned 37 but he has been one of the keys behind CSK’s success in the last few seasons. He slammed record 633 runs in IPL 2021 season, falling just a couple of runs short of Orange Cap to Ruturaj Gaikwad. He had earlier scored 449 and 396 runs in IPL 2020 & IPL 2019. Overall, he has experience playing 100 IPL matches. He could prove to be a great pick with franchises eyeing for a consistent and experienced opening batsman.

“I am certain that they will go after Faf because he has been incredible for CSK over the past 5 or 6 years,” Uthappa added.

Ambati Rayudu

The right-handed batsman is an unsung hero for the yellow army over the years. He adjusted to different roles and has brought the team out of difficult situations a number of times. He has amassed 282, 359 and 257 runs in the last three IPL seasons. Overall, he has experience of 175 IPL matches with 3916 runs that features a century and 21 fifties. He also has the ability to hut sixes under pressure and owns 149 sixes in IPL.

“…I would definitely love to play for CSK. Formally, there has not been any communication with me so far, But I am hoping to get picked by them and have a successful league again,” Rayudu said.
