IPL 2022: Amid increase in Covid in India, BCCI zeroes down on South Africa as PLAN B to host IPL Season 15: Report

IPL Season 15 in South Africa – Why SA is being preferred than UAE? The past two years IPL fully and partially was hosted by UAE because of the pandemic situation in the country.

  • IPL 2021 – Second half of IPL was hosted by the Gulf nation

The board this time is not keen on moving the IPL Jamboree to UAE in case the pandemic situation doesn’t improve in the country.

Reason, the feedback from the players currently involved in India tour of South Africa is very positive about the hotels & bio-bubble conditions in South Africa according to the report.

With the IPL consisting of 10 teams this time, Season 15 will be longer than before & BCCI is keen to look after the MENTAL HEALTH of the players in BIO-BUBBLE.

The sprawling hotels and resorts that the hosts, South Africa cricket board, have earmarked for the tour party have come as a welcome relief for players. The board is convinced on these kind of facilities than what gets provided in UAE.

“The place where the team was staying for the second Test is spread over several acres. There were walking tracks and even a pond on the property and that has made things easier for the players who for the last couple of years or so have been confined to their rooms on several overseas tours,” said an official to the Indian Express.

The entire edition of 2020 was held in the UAE due to the pandemic. The tournament returned to India the following year but had to be suspended in May amid a devastating second wave in the country. The rest of the IPL had to be completed in the UAE in September-October.

“As of now, we are hosting it in India but the situation is fluid. It is too early to think about shifting it outside,” Patel confirmed.
