After CVC Capital won the bidding rights to the Ahmedabad franchise for Rs 5,625 Cr, they were subjected to an internal probe for their alleged ties with betting companies. But now, they have been cleared of all the charges and received the Letter of Intent. That means they can get on with their three first signings from the draft and coaching staff.

BCCI on Tuesday confirmed that January 22, 5 PM will be their deadline to declare the signing of the three players from the unretained draft.
“We have been talking to the new teams, we are planning to give them 10 days to two weeks,” IPL chairman Brijesh Patel told PTI. He also added that there will be no change in IPL auction plans for now.
First thing first, the coaching staff. Ahmedabad have been linked with two big names — Asish Nehra and Gary Kirsten. Apart from that, the decision on captaincy will come very soon. Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer both have been linked to a move but it is likely that Junior Pandya will be the next captain. The other big name is likely to be Rashid Khan.
Both new franchises — Ahmedabad and Lucknow — have been in a tug of war for the Afghan spin wizard.
By when can Ahmedabad make three new signings?
BCCI has given time to the two new franchises two weeks to make the formal signings. As InsideSport reported earlier, January 31 seems to be the official deadline. For the three first picks, one franchise can spend up to Rs 33 crore from the purse.

Who are on the radar? – Ahmedabad want India all-rounder Hardik Pandya to be the next captain. But a final announcement is likely to be made soon.
Apart from Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan is the second likely pick. The Afghan leg-spinner has been on many franchises’ radar but Ahmedabad are leading the race. The final choice will be down to Rashid.
For the third spot, the two names that have been doing rounds are Krunal Pandya and Ishan Kishan. Krunal Pandya, the spin all-rounder, didn’t have a great season with Mumbai Indians last time out. But he could be a valuable asset. As for Ishan Kishan, another former Mumbai Indians batsman, Ahmedabad could have a future captain in him apart from fixing one opening spot.

Who are on Ahmedabad’s radar for coaching staff?
InsideSport understands that Ashish Nehra has been finalised as the head coach. It will be the former India pacer’s first full-time job as the head coach. He was earlier the bowling coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The other big name is Gary Kirsten. In fact, former India world cup winning coach Kirsten was one of the first names to be considered. The former South Africa batsman has been on the radar of England and South Africa to take up the coaching role. But Ahmedabad has managed to snap him up for the mentor role.
