South African all-rounder Chris Morris on Tuesday announced his retirement from all forms of the game. He thanked everyone who were a part of his journey and expressed excitement for the coaching role he has been roped in for. “Today I announce my retirement from all forms of cricket! Thanks to all who have played a part in my journey whether it be big or small…it’s been a fun ride! Delighted to be taking up a coaching role at @titanscricket #lifebeginsnow,” Morris said in an Instagram post.
AB De Villiers
Former South African batter AB de Villiers on Nov 19 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He last played for South Africa in April 2018 when the Proteas locked horns with Australia at Johannesburg. “It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket. Ever since the back yard matches with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm. Now, at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns so brightly,” De Villiers tweeted.
Harbhajan Singh
Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh on Dec 24 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 41-year-old has played 103 Tests, 236 ODIs and 28 T20Is for Men in Blue. He scalped 294 wickets in limited-overs cricket. “All good things come to an end and today as I bid adieu to the game that has given me everything in life, I would like to thank everyone who made this 23-year-long journey beautiful and memorable. My heartfelt thank you Grateful,” Harbhajan Singh tweeted
Ross Taylor
New Zealand batter Ross Taylor has retired from international cricket. The two-match Test series against Bangladesh was his last but he will once again grace the field against Australia in limited-overs matches later this month which will be his last for Blackcaps.
“It’s been an amazing journey and I feel incredibly fortunate to have represented my country for as long as I have. It’s been such a privilege to play with and against some of the greats of the game and to have created so many memories and friendships along the way,” said Taylor as per the official New Zealand Cricket release.
“But all good things must come to an end and the timing feels right for me. I want to thank my family, friends and all those who have helped me get to this point. There’ll be plenty of time for more thank-yous and reflections later in the season – but for now, I want all my energy and focus to be on preparing and performing for the BLACKCAPS this summer,” he added.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa
Sri Lanka batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa on Wednesday announced his international retirement with immediate effect. Rajapaksa, in his letter of resignation handed over to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), said the decision to resign was taken after considering his family obligations.
“I have very carefully considered my position as a player, husband and am taking this decision looking forward to fatherhood and associated familial obligations,” he said in his letter of resignation as per Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
“He also wished Sri Lanka Cricket continued success in its future endeavors,” a statement from SLC read.
Rajapaksa represented Sri Lanka, both in ODIs and T20Is.
