IPL 2021 in UAE: Delhi Capitals rope in Ben Dwarshuis as Chris Woakes replacement for Phase 2 – Delhi Capitals have signed Australian fast bowler  Ben Dwarshuis as a replacement for English all-rounder Chris Woakes for the rest of IPL 2021.

The Englishman pulled out of IPL 2021 after India refused to take the field in Manchester for the 5th Test. He impressed with the ball in Phase 1, scalping 5 wickets in 3 matches. The last-moment pull-out did trouble Delhi Capitals but have been able to find a replacement with just six days left for the tournament. However, he is all set to miss the opening match.

IPL 2021 in UAE: Ben Dwarshuis has scalped 100 wickets in 82 T20 matches at an average of 23.73. The 27-year-old, who plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League, and is the sixth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament with 85 wickets in 69 matches.

“The Delhi Capitals have announced Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis as Woakes’ replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2021 season. Dwarshuis will be joining the Delhi Capitals team bio-bubble in the UAE soon,” Delhi Capitals said in a statement.

IPL 2021 in UAE: The 14th season, which was postponed in May this year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume on September 19 in Dubai with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Mumbai Indians.

The action will then shift to Abu Dhabi where Kolkata Knight Riders will square off against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Sharjah will host its first game on September 24 when Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Chennai Super Kings.

IPL 2021 in UAE: In all, 13 matches will be held in Dubai, 10 in Sharjah, and 8 in Abu Dhabi. Delhi Capitals have begun training in UAE ahead of Phase 2 with regular skipper Shreyas Iyer joining the team in advance. He has returned from the injury but Rishabh Pant is expected to continue to lead in this season.
