Lakshya Sen vs Hans-Kristian Vittinghus

After Sameer Verma bowed out on the first round, Lakshya Sen, who is the only remaiing Indian in the men’s singles category defeated World No.21 Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in straight sets to march into the second round at the Indonesian Masters.

Lakshya comfortably led the game right from the start and won the first set with a comfortable 21-10 victory. In the second set, Vittinghus displayed a good fight initially. He managed to level the score 6-6. However, Lakshya didn’t allow his opponent to take the lead as the Indian entered the mid-set break with a slender 11-9 lead. Lakshya continued to showcase his class as he was brilliant with his cross-court returns and continued to maintain his lead over the Danish. From 19-18, Lakshya Sen gets the next two points as he closed out the match with a straight set victory.

PV Sindhu vs Line Christopherson

PV Sindhu entered the second round of the Indonesian Masters with a come-from-behind victory over Danish rival Line Chrisstophersen. Sindhu started the game positively as she lead 11-9 in the mid-set break in the first-set. However, she was challenged continuously by Christophersen, who managed to take the lead for the first time as she led the set 14-13. From then on, it became difficult for Sindhu to match the speed of the Dane as she lost the set 18-21.

In the second set too Sindhu lead the set 5-2. But Christophersen soon crawled her way back as she took five successive points to lead the set 7-5. She entered the break with a 11-10 lead. After the break, Sindhu took an aggressive approach as it was a do-or-die moment for her and the Danish couldn’t find answers for Sindhu as the Indian won the set 21-15.

In the decider, Christophersen took an early lead but Sindhu managed to make a comeback and entered the break with a 11-7 lead. From then on, it was completely Sindhu’s game as she dictated the gameplay and raced to 20-10 with 10 game points in her hand. She then closed out the set 21-11 as she entered the second round of the tournament.

Mixed Doubles 

Bhatnagar – Crasto vs Jordan – Oktavianti

In the mixed Doubles, India’s Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto lost their first round encounter against Indonesia’s Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavainti. Right from the start, the Indonesian duo dominated the set and they won the set 21-14.

In the second set too they led until the break as the score read 11-10. The Indian duo however came back after the break and won five consecutive points to lead in the match for the first time. They took the game into the decider by winning the set 21-16.

In the third set, there was a close fight with the Indonesian pair leading in the break as the score lread 11-10. However, Tamisha Crasto and Ishaan Bhatnagar lost steam after it as they allowed their opponent to dominate the proceedings. Jordan-Oktiavanti duo won the set 21-12 and ousted the Indian pair.

Ponnappa-Reddy vs Faizal-Kani

The Indian pair defeated Indonesia’s Hafiz Faizal and Serena Kani 21-15, 21-14 in a match that lasted for 29 minutes.
