Against Medvedev, following a sloppy end to the first set which he lost 6-4, Monfils found a new gear for the rest of the two-hour, four-minute match. Aggressive throughout, Monfils began to find more consistency with his baseline blasts and the Frenchman was able to break down the World No. 1 as the match wore on. He won the next two sets 3-6, 1-6 to advance to the next round.

Speaking after his victory against Medvedev, Monfils said, “I played great tennis. I knew I was in great shape and tough to beat. It’s always special to beat a World No. 1.”

- Meanwhile, Alcaraz started the year by reaching the third round of the Australian Open, where he lost against Matteo Berrettini in five sets.
- He participated in the Rio Open and became the youngest ATP 500 winner by clinching the title.
- The Indian Wells Masters is the Spaniard’s third tournament this year and he has dropped just eight games in the two matches that he has played.
- He faced Mackenzie McDonald in the first round and won the game in straight sets. In the second round he defeated his compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut in a 6-2, 6-0 rout.
Alcaraz vs Monfils Head-to-Head: Both the players will be up against each other for the first-time. Both the players are in terrific form at the moment and the contest promises plaenty of action.
