India vs Zimbabwe: Deepak Chahar, Washington Sundar return – After a long wait on the sidelines, pace bowler Deepak Chahar and spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar have made a return to the side. Chahar has been ruled out of action since march earlier this year, while Sundar had a series of finger injuries that saw him miss out games in the past few months. With the Asia Cup and T20 world Cup around the corner, the timing of their comeback is excellent adding to Rahul Dravid’s selection headache. The All India selection committee decided to rest a series of first team stars as many fringe players got a look in for the IND vs ZIM ODI series. Among the return folk are Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar, who were forming a key part of India’s T20 world Cup before injuries ruled them out for a significant period.

Chahar was out with a back injury suffered in February, which saw him miss the IPL 2022 with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He initially suffered a quadricep tear, before hurting his back forcing him onto a long spell on the sidelines. The 29-year-old’s return to the squad was hinted by veteran spinner Amit Mishra, who had tweeted a picture with him at the NCA.

The CSK star could prove to be a vital part of India’s plans considering his ability to swing the ball early. The 29-year-old has also worked on his death bowling while also remains a handy option down the order.

As for Washington Sundar, the off-spinner is currently plying his trade with Lancashire in England having been left out of India’s squads for the West Indies series.  A miserly bowler with the ability to bat lower down the order means that the 22-year-old is an asset to any side, but will face stiff competition on return.

Sundar sat out of the series against South Africa, Ireland, England and West Indies after having injured his bowling hand during the IPL. he has now recovered and even picked up a five-wicket haul on his County Debut for Lancashire.

India squad vs Zimbabwe: Shikhar Dhawan (Capt), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
