As the encounter concludes, we at InsideSport.IN identified some takeaways from the game:
An inexperienced defense
With Igor Stimac omitting out veteran defenders Pritam Kotal and Subhashish Bose, and Sandesh Jhingan and Chinglensana Singh being unavailable with VISA issues, the head coach had no options but to start a young yet not so-experienced lineup of Narender Gahlot. Anwar Ali and Akash Mishra. Roshan Singh Naorem also aided the cause.
However, with the likes of Sandesh being missing from the heart of it, the defenders who are not accustomed to the high-pressing football as played by Singapore were often losing their control. The Singapore forwards being experienced took advantage of any such opportunity and could build on it.
Despite conceding a goal from a freekick, it was custodian Gurpreet Singh that ultimately averted away most of the danger for India. Having said that, the players had their moments of high as well. Akash Mishra paired beautifully with Ashique Kuruniyan in keeping the left flank alive.

Ashique Kuruniyan shines in a rather stale attack
With The Blue Tigers registering only a goal in the entirety of the game, the attacking woes of the team have been exposed to the bones. While Liston Colaco was deemed for his consistency, he was quite wasteful upfront. His low conversion rates were making the right flank rather uneventful, Although registering about 70% of shots on target, India failed to score a winner in the second half.
However, Ashique Kuruniyan lived up to an otherwise dull attack. Combining with the likes of the Akash Mishra, kept hurling attacks from the left flank. Ashique not only set himself up but put constant efforts to set up Sahal Abdul Samad and Colaco. Ashique although with his lows had an impressive game, scoring the important equalizer for the Indian Football Team. Sahal hardly contributed to the game, although he was being played out of position.
In the second half, the Singapore defense eased up, owning to the fact that the Indian attack hardly threatened them. However, Igor Stimac’s decision to not bring Chhangte, who is in a red hot form earlier in the game, is a questionable one. Lest the Blue Tigers find a solution to their attacking problems and cease to depend only on Sunil Chhetri.

A non-cohesive midfield
Although Igor Stimac featured a talented array of players in the midfield, Anirudh Thapa has quite a lot of experience. The combination somehow did not work out. The lack of experience in Roshan, Sahal, and Jeakson came on heavy on the team as they failed to connect with the final third. The lack of a make-shift defensive midfielder created a gap between the midfield and defense which was well exploited by Singapore forward. Playing Sahal out of his position rendered him clueless about his role and hence could hardly contribute to the attack.
