The Final Groups for the SAFF 2023:

  • Group A: India, Kuwait, Nepal & Pakistan
  • Group B: Lebanon, Bhutan, Bangladesh & Maldives

India and Pakistan will play one another in the SAFF Championship for the first time in five years. The 2018 SAFF Championship semifinal was the last time the two teams squared off. A 3-1 victory for India. The Blue Tigers won their eighth championship in 2021 after defeating Nepal 3-0 in the SAFF tournament’s finals game. India’s most recent international friendly matchup with Kuwait was in preparation for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. The Kuwaitis defeated the Blue tigers by a score of 9-1.

After missing out on two of the 13 tournaments held since 1993, Pakistan has re-joined the SAFF fold. The Pakistan Football Federation was unable to send a team to the 2015 competition in India because of internal issues. The country skipped the 2021 competition because of their FIFA suspension. This year’s prohibition was lifted. As India prepare to take on Pakistan, Indian Football fans could not keep their excitement.

India has usually been the dominant power in the tournament. They’ve won the competition eight times in total, with the most recent victory coming in 2021.The 14th edition of the event will be held in Bengaluru, India, from June 21 to July 4. The Maldives, which has won the title twice, is the closest to India.
