India Tour of South Africa: After India breached Australia and then England in their backyards, it’s time for Virat Kohli & Co to finally stamp their mark on South Africa soil. India Tour of South Africa: 3 big reasons why Team India can finally beat Proteas in their backyard

  • India on a high after beating Australia, England
  • Bumrah, Shami best bowling pair coupled with the rise of Mohd Siraj; R Ashwin, Axar Patel at their best
  • Solid batting power- Kohli, Rohit, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer, even Rahane & Pujara have fared better in SA

Kohli & Co on a high after beating Australia, England in their backyard

The year 2021 proved to be very fruitful for Team India. They got their mojo by beating superpower Australia in their backyard twice and took a 2-1 lead in the ongoing Test series. The victories will be fresh in the minds of Virat Kohli & Co when they play South Africa in absence of stars like AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn, Faf du Plessis, among others. This is perhaps the best chance for India to beat South Africa after waiting for two decades. Kohli & Co will be aware they can only lose to themselves as South Africa lack big stars to help dominate India.

India’s emergence as bowling prowess

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohd Shami are the two best bowlers in world cricket. The duo can put any batsmen under pressure with their tight line and length and can trouble opposition in any conditions. The rise of Mohd Siraj has filled the void of a quality pacer to back up these bowlers. The trio in tandem would make it difficult for SA batsmen to get off to a great start. Meanwhile, R Ashwin is at his prime and Axar Patel has risen as an allrounder. The duo can complement each other and ensure India doesn’t leak runs.

Mohd Shami in South Africa– 5 Tests, 21 wickets

Jasprit Bumrah in South Africa– 3 Tests, 14 wickets

Solid batting power

India have a solid batting power ahead of the South Africa series. Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane boats of a 50 plus average in South Africa. Cheteshwar Pujara has also fared better in SA coupled with the rise of Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer.

Virat Kohli in South Africa– 558 runs from 5 Tests at an average of 55 (2 centuries, two fifties)

Ajinkya Rahane in South Africa– 266 runs from 3 Tests @53.2 (2 fifties)

Cheteshwar Pujara in South Africa– 411 runs from 7 Tests @31.62 (1 century, 2 fifties)

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer scored a century and followed it with a half-century in the last two Tests respectively.
