The BCCI on Monday announced India’s 18-member travelling contingent for the T20 World Cup in Australia starting next month. Rohit Sharma will lead the side while KL Rahul will act as his deputy for the tournament Down Under. The likes of Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah have returned from injury, while Ravindra Jadeja was officially ruled out after knee surgery.
Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik both made the trip as India’s wicketkeeping conundrum continues into the competition. With Jadeja ruled out, the selectors played safe and named both Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda in the squad, handing Rohit Sharma the liberty to check and choose his options.
With Hooda making the cut, Shreyas Iyer was named standby alongside Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar. Shami returns to the T20I scheme of things after the T20 World Cup last year, while Chahar was included ahead of Avesh Khan having replaced him during the recently concluded Asia Cup.
