Ravi Bishnoi, who impressed in the IPL 2021, has received a maiden call-up to the T20I squad. Deepak Hooda has also been recalled but Bhuvneshwar Kumar whose place was uncertain has been relegated to the T20I squad only in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. As InsideSport reported earlier, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested while a fit-again Rohit Sharma is back to lead the side in the three-match ODI and as many T20Is against West Indies starting February 6 in Ahmedabad.

“Kuldeep Yadav is making a comeback and Ravi Bishnoi is the new face in the team for the West Indies series. The team will be led by Rohit Sharma,” a BCCI source told PTI.
Kuldeep Yadav who last played in the Sri Lanka series after a gap of over a year had a decent run but wasn’t really successful in taking wickets. He missed the second leg of IPL 2021 due to an injury after being ignored in the first half. He also missed out on the domestic white-ball tournaments. However, he featured in one Test against England and returned with two wickets with Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel dominating.

For Ravi Bishnoi, it will be the maiden call-up for the U-19 star as India try out different combination, especially with wrist-spinners. India had great success with wrist spinners but from the white-ball series against England at home, the famous Kul-Cha pair was dropped after a string of poor performances.

But with R Ashwin out with injury and Ravindra Jadeja yet to regain full fitness, the selectors decided to reward the youngster with a place. Bishnoi, who was recently picked up by Lucknow Super Giants, scalped 12 wickets in 9 matches for Punjab Kings in IPL 2021 and conceded only at an economy of 6.34.
Surprisingly, Krunal Pandya has been overlooked in favour of Deepak Hooda and Rishi Dhawan. Hooda who made it to the team twice, in 2017 and in 2018, never played a game. But after a decent showing in IPL 2021, he has been recalled for ODIs.
