“He is a very talented bowler and having a left-arm seamer is always great. Arshdeep was brilliant in the death overs in both 1st and 2nd T20 against West Indies. He has definitely put one foot forward for T20 World Cup squad. We have to see how he does in the remaining matches and Asia Cup,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.
Among the new faces, Arshdeep Singh has impressed the most. In three T20Is so far, Arshdeep has maintained an economy rate of just 5.91 with 3 wickets to his name. In fact, in the 11.3 overs, he has bowled so far, he has an impressive 33 dot balls, making it difficult for the batters.
His two other competitions — Umran Malik and Avesh Khan — have fallen short. Umran is already out of the team while Avesh Khan has been expensive in his international career. That has opened the door for Arshdeep Singh to capitalise on.

India Squad T20 WC: Why is Arshdeep Singh favourite to book T20 World Cup spot?
- The young pacer from Punjab has an impressive arsenal of variations.
- Although he has played only three internationals, Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma have had a good look at him at nets session.
- Against two of the best T20 teams in England and West Indies, Arshdeep has managed to keep the economy rate under 6.
- He has also bagged 5 wickets, bowling an impressive 33 dot balls out of 69 deliveries he has bowled so far.
- In his first match against England, he bowled 1.3 overs at the death, conceding just 10 runs for 2 wickets.
- Against West Indies, he has so far bowled four overs at the death, conceding 19 runs for two wickets.
- His closest competitors haven’t fared well. While Umran has already been dropped, Avesh has been expensive.
- Now, if Arshdeep also does well in the matches leading up to the T20 World Cup, he will surely get a place in the squad.

While Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel are three certain pacers to book the tickets, the competition is for the backup roles. India already have 12 members confirmed for T20 World Cup.
“It’s too early to say whether Arshdeep is certain to make it. We still have one and half months to go. The Asia Cup will certainly be a big test while the matches against Australia and South Africa will decide whether he will be preferred,” the selector said.
