- The likes of experienced Cheteshwar Pujara & Ajinkya Rahane have been dropped.
- Among others, KS Bharat has been chosen in place of Wriddhiman Saha and 100-Test veteran Ishant Sharma has also been dropped.
- However, the door is open for everyone to get into the international team. The players have been asked to play in the Ranji Trophy.
- Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant rested for the Sri Lanka T20 series, not Test matches
- Shardul Thakur rested for both Tests and T20Is but is available for WI final T20I
- Washington Sundar & KL Rahul ruled out, R Ashwin is available but subject to fitness standards.
- Axar Patel, who missed the WI series, is still recovering and expected to be fit before the second Test match.
- Saurabh Kumar is a new face that has been added to the Test squad. He is an upcoming star all-rounder from UP.
- Sanju Samson has been included in the T20I setup against Sri Lanka. He will be the wicketkeeper option in absence of R Pant & KL Rahul.
- Chetan Sharma stressed that Cheteshwar Pujara & Ajinkya Rahane would return if they perform in Ranji Trophy.
- R Jadeja is FIT and the team management is hoping that he soon returns to the mix for Team India across formats.
- As long as Rohit Sharma is FIT and available, he is the Test captain unless rested.
- Chetan Sharma also spoke about Hardik Pandya and said fitness will be considered in the long run for an international comeback.

Earlier this week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a new schedule for India’s upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.
The tour was supposed to start with the two-match Test, but now will begin with T20Is, with the first match being played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on February 24. The second and third T20Is will take place in Dharamsala on February 26 and 27.
Following the T20I series, the teams will play two Tests, which form a part of the 2021-23 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
