He will join the team as a replacement for Sanju Samson for the remaining two games of the T20 series against SriLanka. Samson suffered a knee injury in the 1st T20. Selectors are rewarding Jitesh Sharma for his show in IPL 2022. He scored 234 runs in 12 matches with a strike rate of 163.64.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Jitesh Sharma as replacement for Sanju Samson. Team India wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the remainder of the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Samson hurt his left knee while attempting to field a ball near the boundary ropes during the 1st T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai,” BCCI said in a statement.
He was taken for scans and a specialist opinion this afternoon in Mumbai by the BCCI Medical Team and has been advised rest and rehabilitation.

How did Sanju Samson get injured? It was in the first over of SriLanka’s chase when Pathum Nissanka miscued a shot off Hardik Pandya’s delivery. Samson who was fielding in the cover tried to rush in to take the catch. But he miscalculated his dive and ended up dropping the chance.
While he continued to field after the incident, Cricbuzz reported he developed swelling overnight. As per the physios’ advice, he has been asked to take medical advice. Samson has stayed back in Mumbai to undergo scans.

Tripathi received his maiden T20I call-up against Ireland earlier this year, but he did not made his debut in that series. With Virat Kohli also rested in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, Tripathi can be an ideal candidate to bat at the number three position.
Speaking about his numbers in IPL, the 31-year-old has played 76 matches and has amassed 1798 runs at an astounding strike rate of 140. Tripathi also has ten fifties to his name and looks comfortable against both spin and pace bowling.
