Rishabh Pant replaced Dinesh Karthik in India playing XI for the final Super 12 Group 2 match. The veteran’s not-so-impressive form has propelled this decision of team management to drop Karthik for Pant for the Zimbabwe clash.

Dinesh Karthik with scores of 1, 6 and 7 hasn’t lived up to the expectations set. Although he has faced just 22 balls, he is in Australia to hit quick runs. The stage was set for him against Bangladesh but a miscommunication with Virat Kohli dismissed him. As things stand, apart from team management’s backing, DK does not have a lot to show for it.

With all the aforementioned facts in mind, Rishabh Pant was eager to put a mark on the game but he failed expeditiously. The explosive wicketkeeper-batter was promoted to come out and bat at No. 4 but had a short stay on the pitch as he was removed at the score of 3 off 5 balls.

Ryan Burl took a fantastic catch of Pant at wide long-on. Pant was down on his knee to play the slogsweep, but Burl sprinted to his left and took a superb diving catch.

Pant failed to make the most of the chance. Now it is very unsure that Pant will get another chance in this tournament.

Rishabh Pant was practicing hard to make a comeback. Even against Bangladesh, he was tipped to replace Karthik as the veteran suffered a back injury. However, Team India preferred to go with Karthik over Pant as he recovered just in time.

India Semifinal T20 WC: Will Rishabh Pant come in for Dinesh Karthik?

  • Dinesh Karthik’s returns have dwindled over the last two months.
  • After an average campaign in Asia Cup, Karthik had a couple of a good knocks against South Africa.
  • However, in Australia, he has endured a poor run.
  • He has returns of 1, 6 and 7 against Pakistan, SouthAfrica, and Bangladesh.
  • Rishabh Pant on the other hand has also endured a poor run.
  • In 2022, Pant has scored 338 runs in 17 innings at a strike rate of 136.84.

Notably, the BCCI selection committee is already looking beyond Karthik after the T20 World Cup as the veteran was not selected for India’s tour of New Zealand. There is also a great possibility that Karthik might have played his last game for India.
