India Playing XI vs ZIM

  • With India batting second, we will only come to know about Shubman Gill’s batting position, will he bat in the middle order?
  • He did well in the last ODI series against West Indies as opener, but demoting him down the order seems to be the best choice with KL Rahul back in the squad.
  • Rahul will head to Dubai for Asia Cup and he needs to have as many match practice as possible before the Pakistan match.
  • Rahul hasn’t played any competitive cricket since IPL 2022 due to sports hernia surgery and then Covid-19.
  • The middle order is too crowded once again.
  • Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda and Shubman Gill are the regular batters for the first ODI.
  • In bowling, Deepak Chahar has marked his return to cricket after five months.
  • Amongst spinners, both Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are named in the Playing XI.

It is quite evident that the management was in no mood to experiment. They went ahead with the best XI they could have fielded in Harare. There are no surprises in the spin department with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in the XI.

The former will also be used as an all-rounder, which adds to the strength of the batting department. Shardul Thakur might be unfortunate to miss out on the slot, but Deepak Chahar is a good choice as he can also bat down the order and be effective with the new ball too.

Besides Chahar, they have Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj as their other pacers. The pacers will be eager to extract any movement if possible in the early hour. All in all, India have selected a balanced squad and look strong for a good start in the series.

India’s squad for 3 ODIs: KL Rahul (Captain) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Subhuman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Shahbaz Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
