India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul at the time of the Toss said:
“Injuries are not great and we’ve had a few of them. But it also gives opportunities to new guys. Two changes obviously: Rohit and Deepak are injured. So Ishan and Kuldeep come in.”
“We’ve always had the quality as a team. Right now it’s important for us to get better as individuals and get runs in different conditions. Haven’t played one-day cricket for a long, long time. Focus was on T20 cricket. We always want to win and give our best for the country. But sometimes it doesn’t happen. There’s never an international game that doesn’t have pressure.”
“It’s a new wicket – different conditions. Important for us to assess, be brave and put the pressure back on them. That’s what Indian cricket has done over the years,” he concluded.
India suffered triple injury blow with Rohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar, and Kuldeep Sen all bowing out with injuries. While the latter two are out of the ODI series, Rohit is doubtful for the Test series as well.

Kuldeep Sen suffered an injury during practice and did not feature in the 2nd ODI. While there was no replacement named for the wicketkeeper-batsman, InsideSport had reported that Pant was carrying a back injury since the NZ tour. With injuries to Rohit Sharma and Deepak Chahar during the 2nd ODI, Team India is now left with 13 fit members available for the final ODI in Chattogram.
To note, Shardul Thakur suffered cramps in 1st ODI and was not fully fit. Axar Patel missed the 1st ODI due to a rib injury. Rohit Sharma is visibly frustrated with the string of injuries.

“Few injury concerns and we need to get to the bottom of it. Maybe they’re playing too much cricket. It’s something we have to sit down with our team at NCA and try and monitor their workload. When they come to play for India, they need to be at more than 100 per cent. We need to monitor their workload because we can’t have guys coming in to play for the country half-fit,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.
