India vs New Zealand Hockey: India will now play New Zealand in a crossover match to maintain their prospects of making it out of the group stage. Qualification Scenario
There are four groups of 16 teams, A, B, C, and D. Each team was to play the other teams in its pool three times. The top team will automatically proceed to the quarterfinals, under the rules. Conversely, the teams in second and third place will begin playing crossover matches on January 22.
England, who leads the standings with a goal differential of nine, defeated Spain earlier in the match 4-0. Team India had to defeat Wales so that they had a game-high goal differential of eight in order to advance directly to the quarterfinals. Six of the goals should have been field goals, even if they had won with a goal differential of seven.

Day 6 of #HWC2023 brought the conclusion of the group stage action from Pool C and Pool D, as Netherlands and England topped their groups, booking their quarterfinals spots, while Malaysia, New Zealand, India and Spain now move on to the crossovers.

Both England and India finished group D matches with seven points each, but the European team won the pool due to a better goal differential. England, which defeated Spain 4-0 in the first Pool D encounter, has a superior goal differential of plus nine compared to India’s four. On Friday, the co-host location of Rourkela will play home to the final round matches of Pool A and Pool B.
The crossover game will take place at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on January 22, and the quarterfinal contest will be held there on January 24.
