The Netherlands are joining India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa in Group 2 in Super 12 by the virtue of finishing as runner-up of Group A.

Muhammad Waseem’s all-round effort helped the United Arab Emirates in sealing a narrow seven-run victory over Namibia in their last group stage encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Geelong on Thursday. The defeat knocked Namibia out of the competition and cleared the path for Netherlands to go through to the Super 12s. Sri Lanka finished on top of Group A.
Earlier in the day, Netherlands were at receiving end as Kusal Mendis’ classy half-century helped Sri Lanka in registering a 16-run win in their cut-throat ICC Men’s T20 World Cup clash in Geelong. The Island nation confirmed their berth in the Super 12 phase as a result of this victory.
While on Tuesday, Netherlands clinched a nail-biting five-wicket triumph over Namibia in Geelong. It came down to the final over with the Netherlands needing six to win and experienced all-rounder Bas de Leede held his nerve and made sure he did enough to clinch the Player of the Match award by guiding his side home with three balls remaining.
With a really good net run rate in the bank, Namibia was aiming to recover from the loss against Netherlands and top the group against UAE in the final Group A clash. Despite the loss to the Netherlands, a big win over Sri Lanka in the first match of the tournament did put Namibia in a prime position to top Group A at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and qualify for the Super 12.
But alas, party pooper UAE had some other plans. Erasmus’ men ended up on 141/8 in the end, seven runs short, as UAE also bowed out of the tournament with a morale-boosting win.
