Hailing from a small village of Uttar Pradesh where 24-hours electricity is a dream, Savitri does not want to take any chances to see her daughter achieving her dream. “There is no guarantee of electricity in our village tomorrow. Hence, I have collected money to buy an inverter. My daughter is in the team playing the World Cup final and we hope to watch the match on my mobile phone without any interruption,” Savitri told The Indian Express from Ratai Purwa, a village of about 400 residents.
Archana’s mother never stopped her from chasing after her dreams, but barring moral support, there was not much either she, or her elder brother could offer, with the latter also struggling to find a job to support her sister.
“I worked on our 1-acre farm and sold milk from the two cows we owned to make ends meet. People used to taunt me because I sent Archana away from home to stay in the Kasturba Gandhi Girls School hostel in Ganj Muradabad. Before she got admission there, it was difficult to afford even her daily bus fare of Rs 30. Those who used to taunt me are congratulating me these days,” Savitri added.

Meanwhile, Star India javelin thrower and Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra interacted with the national women’s under-19 cricket team ahead of the final of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup clash against England.
Notably, ahead of her side’s final of the ICC Women’s Under 19 World Cup final against England, Indian skipper Shafali Verma said that the side is extremely excited to play the summit clash and she has shared her experiences of playing finals major tournaments at senior level with them.
“The feeling among the team is great. We have done whatever plans we had in our nets session. Everyone is aware of their roles and what they need to do for tomorrow’s game. Everyone’s excited to be playing in the final. We are going to back each other in the final and are going to enjoy it, give our 100 per cent,” said Shafali in a post-match press conference.
