Avesh Khan was preferred over Arshdeep Singh for the IND vs WI 2nd ODI and captain Shikhar Dhawan had to pay a heavy price for the call in a forgettable outing for the Lucknow Super Giants star. Playing his first ODI, Avesh was carted to the fence in his first three overs, conceding 36 as Kyle Mayers and Shai Hope put on a solid opening partnership.
While the 25-year-old tried to pull it back in the middle overs, he looked short of confidence giving away easy runs to the srt pair of Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope. Avesh eventually finished his spell wicketless, conceding at 9 an over in a nightmare ODI debut.

While Avesh Khan has done well in the IPL over the last couple of seasons, he has failed to replicate the same in Indian colours. In his nine T20Is for India, Khan has eight wickets at an economy rate of 8.10. The catch here is that the 25-year-old took four of them in a single game against South Africa.
With Arshdeep Singh warming the bench time and again, Shikhar Dhawan and Rahul Dravid will have to buckle up their ideas especially considering Avesh Khan’s returns. While the 25-year-old has the potential to be amongst the best in the business, Khan has looked undercooked on the international stage and has been an easy target for the opposition batters.
