IND vs WI 1st T20 Highlights: Suryakumar Yadav was promoted to the top of the order in a bizarre selection call by head coach Rahul Dravid on Friday. The 1st T20I saw the ninth opening paid used by the Indians with just months left for the T20 World Cup.
India experimented with Rishabh Pant at the top of the order in England, but now have swapped him with Suryakumar for the West Indies series. Regular backup opener Ishan Kishan is part of the squad, but hasn’t been afforded an opportunity in either of the games.

Suryakumar meanwhile had nailed down his spot in the middle order and slammed a maiden T20I century in his last game in the format. While Surya is no stranger to opening the batting, he last did so during the IPL way back in 2018.
The Mumbai Indians star did fairly okay in Port of Spain chipping with a fine cameo at the top of the order. Yadav along with Rohit put on a 44 run stand for rhe first wicket, which culminated with the former’s dismissal.
India are unlikely to stick to the Suryakumar experiment beyond the West Indies series. KL Rahul, the vice captain and regular opener, is all set to return after T20Is.
