India’s pace bowling allrounder Venkatesh Iyer, who bowled a solitary over, also sustained a blow to his right hand after the ball slipped through his hand from a Pollard shot in the 17th over. Earlier, Nicholas Pooran starred with the bat his knock of 61 runs helped West Indies post 157/7 against India in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
Sent into bat, West Indies got off to a bad start as the visitors lost Brandon King (4) on the fifth ball of the innings. While Nicholas Pooran did steady the ship, Ravi Bishnoi starred on his debut bagging 2/17 to deal a blow.

In the final four overs, West Indies managed to add 49 more runs to the total, and in the end, the team from the Caribbean posted a score of more than the 150-run mark. Pooran was dismissed by Harshal Patel but it was not before the left-hander played a knock of 61. Kieron Pollard (24*) remained unbeaten for the visitors.
In the end, Rohit Sharma’s 19-ball 40, Suryakumar Yadav’s 18-ball 34 and Venkatesh Iyer’s 13-ball 24 helped India secure a 6-wicket victory and take 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
