With the series on the line, a determined Suryakumar Yadav came to the crease as a man determined to break down the opposition. Not only is he now behind Rohit Sharma in the list of most T20I centuries, but he is also the second fastest to do so. India lost opener Ishan Kishan early on as Rahul Tripathi came at No. 3 to produce a fine cameo.
Shubhman Gill stayed back to anchor the innings, but it was SKY who put this foot on the pedal after Tripathi’s dismissal. Deemed as a late bloomer, Suryakumar Yadav is now the Man for all seasons. With pure aggression, he went on to punish the SriLankan bowlers. Such exquisite was his wrist movement, that he managed to hit 2 scoop shots for six, over the head of the wicketkeeper.

Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 51 ball 112 run knock was enough for India to register a monstrous 228 run target for SriLanka to chase. The Rajkot pitch which has huge boundaries didn’t cause a single problem for SKY. With a staggering strike rate of 219.61, he went on to hit 7 sixes and 9 fours in his innings.
“I’m really happy with the way the innings went. Captain winning the toss and batting first showed faith in the batters, few shots are pre-determined, but these are the shots I’ve been playing over the last year and I’m not doing anything different. The 2022 form is gone, it’s a fresh start in 2023 and I hope to continue doing well. It’s a good pitch, nice bounce and a lush outfield,” said Suryakumar after his unbeaten century knock.
