IND vs SL Live: Virat Kohli has yet again disappointed the fans at the Chinnaswamy Stadium as he departed for 13 in the second innings of the second Test match against Sri Lanka on Sunday. By virtue of the knock, Virat Kohli’s average has dropped below fifty for the first time in Tests in the last six years. Until this Test, Kohli was the only batsman to have an average of 50+ across all three formats. Before this Test match, Virat Kohli averaged 50.35 in Tests. The batsman’s form has taken a dip over the last year and he had to score atleast 42 runs in this Test to prevent his average from dropping down below 50. In the first innings, he got off to a good start scoring 23 off 48 balls that included two boundaries. However just before Tea,he got out to a ball off Dhananjaya de Silva that kept low, turned and hit his pad right in front of the stumps to be dismissed LBW.

In the second innings too he got out in a similar fashion to a delivery from Praveen Jayawickrama that kept low and hit his pad. Kohli was once again stunned but was given out and he walked away without taking the review, scoring just 13. By scoring just 36 runs in the Test, his average has now dropped below 50.

Kohli touched 50 average in his 52nd Test against England at the Wankhede Stadium when he slammed 235 in the first innings. He touched a career-best average of 55.10 when he slammed 254 against South Africa in Pune in 2019. But his stats have slowly come down. He hasn’t scored a century in the last 838 days and his last century which was his 70th ton, came in November of 2019 against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. Since his 70th century, he has averaged only 28.75 in 29 innings. Kohli averages 58.75 in ODIs and 51.5 in T20Is.
