Arshdeep Singh has been warming the benches and wasn’t a part of the Indian playing XI for the first two ODIs. Keeping in mind, that this is the World Cup year, India will look to groom Arshdeep Singh in the 50-over-format.
Reasons why Shami to be rested
1) Performance in first two ODI
In the first two ODIs Shami was not very good of him. In the first match, he took one wicket for 67 runs in 9 overs; in the second match, he could not take a single wicket for 43 runs in 7 overs. Shami was playing his first ODI since July 2022. Perhaps this was the reason that he did not appear in much rhythm.
2) Manage the workload
Shami was in the list of 20 players who was shortlisted by the BCCI for the World Cup 2023 to give them rest time to time. As the Indian team always has a packed schedule and a good break will allow a tired body to heal. And keeping India’s pace battery fully charged will be crucial to the team’s ICC World Test Championship chances.
3) Test series against Australia
In the Test series against Australia, if Jasprit Bumrah is not fit then Shami will have to bowl a lot. If Shami has to perform well in the Test series he must need a break to recharge himself.

Mohammed Shami has played 84 ODIs for India. In which he has scalped 153 wickets. His best bowling figure is 5/69. Whereas, Arshdeep has played only 3 ODIs for India, in which he has not taken any wicket. Arshdeep will be looking to make a mark in 50 overs format too, as he has done in T20i.
In 20 overs format Arshdeep has played 23 matches and picked up 36 wickets. His best bowling figure is 4/37. With his performance in T20, Arshdeep has become one of the main pace bowlers for team India and now he will be eager to imprint his performance in ODI cricket.
