IND vs SA – Arshdeep Singh Interview by Paras Mhambrey: In his first T20I match at home, young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh picked up three wickets in his very first over. After setting the base for India’s eight-wicket win and giving them 1-0 lead in the three-match series, Arshdeep credited simplicity in plans and bowling in right areas to bamboozle South Africa on a two-paced pitch with green tinge.

“I had thought about what to say if I get the man of the match award and got a little excited (on being eager to come and talk). In the first over DC bhai (Deepak Chahar) set the tone and we knew there was plenty of help from the surface. The plan was to keep it simple and bowl in the right areas,” said Arshdeep in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Arshdeep had missed the series against Australia to work on conditioning at NCA and admitted to being refreshed in outwitting the South Africa batters. Asked about the wickets he enjoyed from his spell of 3/32, he said, “I enjoyed (David) Miller’s wicket as I thought he was expecting an outswinger but I bowled an inswinger instead (to get him out for duck).”

When BCCI released the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, the board revealed that Arshdeep would travel to NCA for the conditioning-related work ahead of the South Africa series and thus missed Australia. Following this recovery, Arshdeep Singh justified his selection for the India squad with his stunning performance.
On his very second delivery, Arshdeep dismissed star Proteas opener Quinton de Kock. With a back of a length delivery, Arshdeep instigated de Kock to play the ball away from his body. With the Proteas batter attempting a wild hack at the ball and there inflicting an edge as the ball knocks over the stumps.

In the penultimate delivery of his last over, Arshdeep went on to dismiss Rilee Rossouw on his very first ball. A delivery pitched outside the off stump saw the ball moving away from the batter. Roussouw attempted a very lazy shot to play the delivery and ended up edging the ball. With a decent pace, the ball carried safely into the hands of Rishabh Pant as Arshdeep celebrated his second dimissal in the over.
Arshdeep Singh complete a magnificent over by picking up yet another wicket, his third and the third dimissal of the over in the last ball of the over. With a blinding delivery he sent David Miller packing. A back of a good length delivery saw Miller stay rooted to the crease. The bal on the other hand, with a sharp turn went through the batter to dislodge the stumps. South Africa were reduced to a perilous situation of 8/4.
Arshdeep continued his fine spell over the next two over. He managed to give away just 15 runs from 3 overs and ended up scalping 3 important wickets.
