IND vs SA: India missed Captain Virat Kohli – What started as a golden chance for India to conquer Final Frontier turned out to be a submission to Dean Elgar’s grit. In Johannesburg, under KL Rahul India’s pace attack seemed toothless in the 4th innings and South Africa went on to win the match by 7 wickets. Former India opener Wasim Jaffer said India missed Virat Kohli, the captain and that made the difference. Follow India vs South Africa Live Updates on InsideSport.

India lacked the aggression on Day 4 after rain washed out most of the day. India’s pace attack which has already conquered Australia and are close to winning in England looked timid. From hunting in packs, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj gave away way too many extras and misfired.

IND vs SA: Wasim Jaffer to InsideSport, ‘India missed Virat Kohli the ‘Captain’, Rahane should have led in his absence’

Wasim Jaffer said India missed Virat Kohli’s energy on the field that holds everyone accountable. It was missing from KL Rahul’s Test captaincy debut.

“India definitely missed Virat Kohli the captain because he brings so much aggression to the field. When you have such a player on the field, you know you will be held accountable if you make a mistake. So, they missed that energy,” Wasim Jaffer told on InsideCricket show.

But was KL Rahul the right choice as the captain in Virat Kohli’s absence? Wasim Jaffer believes it was not. With Virat Kohli out injured, Jaffer felt the captaincy should have gone to Ajinkya Rahane who has never lost a Test match captaining India.

“I am surprised by the team management also. When you have as good as Ajinkya Rahane available who has not lost any Test as a captain and won you a Test series in Australia, do you need to give the Test captaincy to KL Rahul?” Wasim Jaffer questioned.

I have nothing against KL Rahul. He is young and has captained Punjab Kings. People are thinking about him as a future captain. But I think Rahane should have led the side in Kohli’s absence,” Wasim Jaffer told InsideSport in a candid chat.
