Two Indian openers — Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul — also struggled with the moving balls. But their change in approach in England was visible and helped them have a successful tour. The two scored the bulk of the runs for Team India.
“I’ve always said front foot defence is important and that is going to count in South Africa. In the first 25 overs, front foot defence is going to be critical and that is what we got to see in England when Rahul got those runs and so did Rohit. Their front foot defence was solid, the bats and the hands were not going away from the body,” Tendulkar said on the show ‘Backstage with Boria’.
“When your hands start going away from your body that is when you start losing control slowly but surely and eventually edge the ball. And the beauty was their hands were not going away. They got beaten on occasion but that’s fine,” he added.
“The approach will change after the first 25 overs depending on how well the batter is batting. Life is not going to be easy, it will still be tough but relatively it will be easier,” he added.

Sachin’s front-foot defensive approach also yielded him results in South Africa. He is the only Indian batsman to score over 1000 runs on South African soil.
