However, a day before the 1st T20 against South Africa, Shreyas Iyer hasn’t yet joined the team in Trivandram. Arshdeep Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed have already joined the squad. Iyer came in place of Deepak Hooda after the former was ruled out with a back injury. Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been rested from the series.
“Arshdeep Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed have joined the team. We’re expecting Shreyas Iyer to be here by evening. Who plays in XI will be decided tomorrow before the game,” Rathour said.

Team India practice
- Batting coach Vikram Rathour addressed the press conference while Rohit Sharma and Co hit the nets in Trivandrum.
- Rohit spent some extended time in the nets alongside Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
- Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik were also seen playing the big shots. The latter was also handed tips from Rahul Dravid while keeping wickets.
- Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah bowled full tilt in the nets. Arshdeep Singh also joined the practice and is available for the game.
- Axar Patel took special fielding drills after his fielding came under the scanner in the Australia series.
- Ravichandran Ashwin was seen batting and bowling in the nets, hinting at a potential all-round role in Hardik’s absence.
- Shreyas Iyer has joined up with the Indian team, but has not taken part in the practice session.
- Shahbaz Ahmed and Umesh Yadav were both in practice and did bowl in the nets.
- Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar also got some batting practice.
