Ruturaj Gaikwad was at his very best on Tuesday, scoring his maiden T20I half-century after India were put into bat at Vishakapatnam. The Chennai Super Kings star, initially took his time, scoring five of his first nine deliveries before launching an attack on the Proteas bowlers in a fine display of stroke making.
Ruturaj tore into Anrich Nortje, slamming five boundaries in his first over to give the Indian innings some much needed momentum. Gaikwad’s attacking intent ensured that India scored in excess of nine an over in the powerplay, creating the perfect platform for the rest of the batting to follow.

He eventually reached his maiden T20I fifty, taking just 32 balls to reach the milestone. Having aggregated just 63 runs in his previous five innings for the national team, his innings on Tuesday was a reminder of his skills after a difficult few months.
Having won the Orange Cap in 2021, the 24-year-old did not have the best of campaigns this year, as CSK finished in the bottom 2 in the points table. Nonetheless, the Indian team management kept faith in him despite his twin failures in the first two games and Gaikwad duly delivered on his promise at Vishakapatnam.
