It is no easy job to replace a player of Quinton de Kock’s stature, but Heinrich Klaasen’s heroic batting ripped through the Indian bowlers as runs came flowing easily. Klaasen reached his 50 in just 32 deliveries which consisted of 6 fours and 2 sixes.
After the sudden collapse of the Proteas’ top-order lineup, Klaasen took off by stitching a wonderful partnership with skipper Temba Bavuma to restore the Proteas from having a total collapse.
With Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius, and Rassie van der Dussen all departing after scoring single digits, Klaasen carried the charge. His batting style and antics brought a reminder or deja vu as to how de Kock used to play against the Indian bowling lineup. The Proteas squad will be happy in finding a perfect replacement for de Kock, when the latter gets injured.

Klassen even after his fifty continues his fine charge as he went on to hit boundaries all over the park. Stepping up at the right moment, just when the team needed him, he went on to score a magnificent 81 off 46 with 7 fours and 5 sixes before being dismissed by Harshal Patel.
Heinrich Klaasen’s previous fifty against India came at the Centurion on the India tour of South Africa in 2018, where the Proteas defeated India by 6 wickets. Set to chase a target of 189, Klaasen scored a wonderful 69 off just 30 deliveries to win the game for his side.
