IND vs SA LIVE: Who will get his debut against South Africa?
- With Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill guaranteed to open, it is the No 3 slot that will be debated.
- Rahul Tripathi has warmed the bench for long and is set to make his debut at No 3.
- With Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson occupying the No 4 and 5 slots, India have a slot open for spin all-rounder.
- Since India are without Washington Sundar, who is recovering from an injury, the battle for the spot is between Rajat Patidar and Shahbaz Ahmed.
- Shabaz was recently called up to the T20 team as well. But only as a cover and didn’t get a game.
- But considering he has been with the squad for longer, Shahbaz Ahmed is the prime contender to make his debut at No 6.
- In the pace bowling department, India will have Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Siraj all playing.

Rajat Patidar: Shot to fame with his century in IPL 2022 for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Patidar has only grown strength to strength. Patidar was instrumental in Madhya Pradesh’s maiden Ranji Trophy triumph. He finished the season only behind Sarfaraz Khan with 658 runs at 82.25 average in 6 matches. In nine innings, Patidar scored 2 centuries and five half-centuries. In the recently-concluded India A series, Patidar impressed again. Patidar finished with 319 runs in 4 innings.

Rahul Tripathi: Although Rahul Tripathi did not have a great outing against New Zealand A or in Duleep Trophy but he has been in the scheme of things. He was taken to Ireland and in England after a brilliant IPL 2022 campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad. After waiting long enough, he is all set to be given the debut cap.

Shahbaz Ahmed: With Washington Sundar struggling with injuries and Axar Patel travelling to Australia, Shahbaz Ahmed is the favourite to get his debut. He has impressed with both bat and the ball in IPL and in domestic circuit. He was instrumental in Bengal reaching the Ranji Trophy semifinals. He scored 482 runs at an average of 60.25 and bagged 20 wickets in 5 matches.
Mukesh Kumar: Another Bengal bowler in the mix is Mukesh Kumar. He was one of the best pacers against New Zealand A with 9 wickets in 5 innings. In Ranji Trophy, he bagged 20 wickets in 9 innings. He could be an asset for the ODI team. However, he will have to wait for his debut.
