Tim Southee put all his experience to work on Sunday as the NewZealand veteran delivered a perfect final over for the hosts at Bay Oval. Having seen Lockie Ferguson concede 22 in the penultimate over to Suryakumar Yadav, Southee was under pressure with India pushing towards a 200+ score.
The 33-year-old however had other ideas as he kept the Indian onslaught on hold, keeping Suryakumar Yadav on the non-striker’s end for the entire over. After conceding a couple of twos to Hardik Pandya, Southee had the Indian captain caught at long off.
He then followed it up with a back-of-length delivery, which Deepak Hooda hit straight to Lockie Ferguson at short fine leg. Facing the hat-trick ball, Washington Sundar also went for the big hit, with James Neesham taking the simplest of catches. Southee conceded just six runs off his final over, finishing with figures of 3/34.

It is Tim Southee’s second T20I hat-trick, having picked one up in Auckland against Pakistan way back in 2010. He becomes only the second bowler with multiple T20I hat-tricks, the other being Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga.
