But the Kiwi set him up well with a short-ball to get his wicket when he was batting at 48. India’s new T20 skipper Rohit admitted that Boult bluffed him.
“Boult knows my weakness and I know his strength, it’s a good fight between the two. When I captain him I always tell him to bluff, and that’s exactly what he did,” Rohit Sharma told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.

Even though Rohit battered Boult in the 5th over, the set-up began in that over. The first shorter-delivery went for a four and then Rohit Sharma followed it up with a huge six. He smashed him for 21 runs in that over.
But when Boult came back, he had a plan. He delivered the short balls again. With Rohit already hitting him for a six, he was confident but this time the short-ball was slow. Rohit mistimed it and it went straight to short fine leg Rachin Ravindra.

Thanks to IPL and Mumbai Indians training camps, Trent Boult knew how to tempt Rohit. His short ball weakness, especially to smash a six off a short ball was well executed by Boult to get his wicket.
India T20I skipper Rohit Sharma has said that playing alongside Trent Boult for Mumbai Indians has helped both of them know each other’s weaknesses and strengths and as a result, it is always a good battle when they play for their national teams.

“He put the mid-wicket back and put the fine leg up and I knew he was gonna bowl a bouncer and I was just trying to put it over the fielder but unfortunately there wasn’t much pace on the ball,” he added.
It was Boult who got the better of Rohit in the first T20I as he clean bowled the right-handed batter when he was batting on 48. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s 62 off 40 was enough to see India across the finishing line with five wickets to spare. With this win, India gained a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the second game set to be played on Friday.
