At the end of Day 2, SuryaKumar Yadav got Shreyas Iyer for an interview where he revealed how the former backed him during his early days for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy. Sharing the video, BCCI wrote, “He gave Shreyas a hug, he clapped for him, he was one of the happiest when his mate scored a hundred. This interview of @ShreyasIyer15 with @surya_14kumar is all heart.”

“This stadium has been very lucky for me and my debut Ranji season was under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy. I would like to thank him for backing me after first four innings. I thought that I would be out of the team and then again we were again in the kind of the same situation. When we came to Kanpur we were 20 or 30 for 5 and then I made around 150 partnership with tail-enders and got to a good position for the team. So, yeah it’s been lucky, even in the IPL I scored 93. So, it is one of the luckiest grounds I ever,” Shreyas Iyer told SuryaKumar Yadav.

Iyer also opened up about his dream day, calling it a fairy tale.
“It has always been my dream to play Test cricket but things went the other way. I played T20, ODIs and now Test but never too late. I am feeling really happy and to score a century on debut. You couldn’t have asked for a better fairy tale. It’s the best feeling in the world.”

He also shed light on the role of Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar on his Test debut.
“That was a long chat. Rahul Dravid introduced Sunil Gavaskar and then the latter motivated me with wise words and he gave me the cap. And, I kissed the cap. I exactly thought that I would be doing that when I visualised the day before. I obviously knew that I was going to play two days prior. I was visualising how the day would fare. I thought Rahul Sir would give me the cap but all of them are legends of the game. I am really fortunate that I git my Test cap from Sunil Sir and it is one of the best feelings in the world.”
