IND vs NZ LIVE: Dravid vs Shastri feat. Gambhir- Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has pointed out a major difference between current India coach Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri. The left-hander criticised Shastri for his boastful statements after India’s big wins in overseas conditions. The statement comes after Dravid chose to stay humble as ever despite India’s 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand.

“The one thing I found surprising is that when you are performing well, you don’t generally boast about it. It’s fine if others talk about it. When we won the World Cup in 2011, no one gave statements that we are the best team in the world, let alone the country,” Gambhir told Times Now Navbharat.

“When you win, let others talk about it. You won (Test series) in Australia, that’s a big achievement no doubt. You performed well in England, no doubt. But let others praise you. Rahul Dravid will never give such statements. Whether the Indian team plays well or not, his statements will always remain balanced. Also, it will reflect on other players,” he added.

On several occasions, Shastri has labelled India’s Test victory in Australia during 2018-2019 as bigger than the 1983 World Cup.

“Humility is very important, regardless of the results. Cricket won’t go on forever. I think Dravid’s major focus will be on players being good human beings first,” he added.

IND vs NZ LIVE: Dravid’s tenure as India coach began with a 3-0 win against New Zealand. He remained humble in win, saying it was tough for Kiwis to play non-stop cricket after T20 World Cup. His interactive speech was also focused on discipline.

“We have to keep our feet on the ground and be a bit realistic about this win. Not easy for NZ to play a World Cup final and then to turn up three days later to play three games in six days, was never going to be easy for them. Nice from our perspective but we have to learn from this series and move forward,” said Dravid in a post-match presentation.

‘’A couple of boys will be going to Kanpur for the Test matches, we will ask them to have an early night,” he added.
